Let me begin by introducing myself. My name is Vickie Quigley. I am the mother of two great kids, Owen and Emma, the wife of my oh so patient husband Todd, a quilter, a longarmer, and recently, a quilt shop owner. Here is the story of how i became the owner of the cutest little quilt shop around.
We have all read the books and seen the movies where the girl takes a huge risk, leaves her job, invest everything she has into a big adventure, and makes it work. I have always felt like that only happens in the movies, but I am here to tell you that it doesn't!
I grew up watching my grandmother making quilts and watching my mother's friend doing alterations for family and friends, and I have always wanted to learn. A number of years ago, armed with a new machine and a pile of books, I took what was to become the first step on the path to where I am today.
After tons of mistakes and lots of false starts, I got my first quilt done. Although nowhere near perfect, this simple 9-patch quilt, stirred in me a need to create. I needed to find someone to help me grow as a quilter. This is when i discovered Martha and The Covered Bridge Quiltery. This lovely little shop stole my heart from the very beginning. It was a source of knowledge, friendship, and supplies. It is while taking classes there that I was first introduced to the longarm. It didn't take me long to want and buy one of my very own. I decided that a great way to get the most use out of my longarm was to offer the services to others. Over four hundred quilts later, that is a decision I have never regretted. To this day I have a sweet spot for longarming and always have a customer's quilt on the go!
During my frequent visits to the shop for classes or supplies, I often mentioned to the owner that when she retired I would love to buy her shop, continue to sell PFAFF sewing machines and keep our community of quilters well supplied with fabric, tools and knowledge. As destiny would have it, after discovering I could no longer work in my chosend field due to a medical conditions, Martha decided it was time for her to enjoy retirement. She approached me (or gave in to my pleading!) and sold me the shop.
A year and a half later, with lots of guidance, hard work, amazing staff and the greatest customers, the shop is thriving and growing everyday! We are the number one PFAFF dealer in the Atlantic Provinces, the number one SVP dealer in the Atlantic Provinces, have created a quilting studio with two GAMMILL longarms on the way, and are busting at the seams with new fabrics, notions and tools.
As I look back on the scary days of taking the leap, I can surely say that I love this little shop and everything that comes with it! Come see how we have grown. We would be happy to help you start a project, help you finish one or guide you along the way!
Helping you make memories, one stitch at a time.
Vickie
